All schools offer various perks. And that’s how different schools have their own identity and characteristics. It’s not surprising to hear the school being blamed by people for the certain image that an individual portrays to the public. Take for instance the statement: “Well, the reason why he acts that way is because he came from the Blank Wall University. All students who graduated from that school behave in that way.” And this interference is not totally without logic. A certain culture and personality is generic in a specific school due to peer pressure.

So, determining the best film school is easy. The answer is: it actually depends on what you hope to become in your film school experience. Each film school has its own attributes and distinguishing features so the best thing to do is know them first. The country where this school is located plays a significant role in figuring out the character of a certain film school.

There are various aspects to consider: the courses that are offered, the length of time each subject is tackled, the number of written modules against actual practice, the college incorporators and the course itself, key persons in lecture forums, the school’s reputation and if that would really matter. I believe it always does. It helps how you move in the world, whether up or down. But, in the real film world, degrees don’t hold much weight as that of track record and experience. No amount of argument can go against track record and natural talent. A few samples of schools that have impeccable status and repute are the following:

American Film Institute

New York University

California State of the Arts

University of Southern California

University of California – Los Angeles

Outside of the United States, there are two notable film schools that anyone who’s interested can choose and these are: Australian Film, Television, and Radio School and the United Kingdom’s National Film and Television School. Not to belittle the ability of other international institutions to teach the art of filmmaking but rest assured that there are those that can be at par with the mentioned schools. What one has to do is run an in-depth research about what he aspires to achieve in the film industry, the culture that he wants to be part of, and where he can be most comfortable with.
