Changi International airport must surely be amongst the most incredible international airports.  There are so many adventures to occupy your time while you’re waiting for your flight time ..  Ok, i’ll tell you just how my wife and I used our 10 hours on that return trip.

We got there weary and headed immediately for the Transit Accommodation.  This is like no other accommodation we have encountered in the past.  The published prices were charged hourly so we decided to purchase a room for 8 hours.  We asked for  a wake-up call and headed to the room.

The accommodation was just like any hotel living room really.  In this case we had a double bed with ensuite bathroom that included a shower area, lavatory and wash basin.  Everything was impecably fresh and uncluttered.  The one noticable difference to almost all rooms was the windows.  There wasn’t one.  There were drapes covering what appeared to be a window although when you pulled them back all that was lurking behind was the wall.  So we shut the curtains, had a shower and leaped into a very comfortable bed.

Seven and a half hours later our wake-up call rang and we got up, made a cup of coffee and signed out.

With 2 hours left and feeling ready to go once more, we made the decision to have dinner at one of the various places to eat.  The food was excellent and the service great.

After eating, we headed to the butterfly enclosure.  This is an astounding feature on the top level of the airport which generally contains a 2 level garden location with exotic plant life and signifigant amounts of butterflies of all shapes, dimensions and colorings.  An awesome spectacle and one anyone might expect to find at a zoo rather than an airport.  Before long the temperature and himidity compelled us to return to the airport.

And then I located the movie theatre and we were were in luck.  The show was just commencing.  So we viewed for a little more than 1 hour.  So relaxing!

Inspite of having then learning of the many other intriguing features at the airport, we had run out of time.  we were about to begin our flight for Australia.

Substantial travel can be quite challenging, notably as you grow older.  The last thing you really want to do is hang around an airport terminal for a long time waiting for connecting flights.  Well done to Changi airport for making the wait a whole lot easier.  We had been so impressed that we would not hesistate to highly recommend it to everyone else who finds themselves in similar situations to us.
