In its first stages, the Stadio Olimpico was called the Stadio dei Cipressi. It was designed and assembled in the bigger project of the Foro Mussolini -Mussolini Forum, which was renamed Foro Italico after the war.

Today, the Stadio Olimpico is the soccer stadium shared by Rome’s 2 Italian soccer league ( Serie ‘A’ ) teams, A.S. Roma and S.S. Lazio. It is found in the Foro Italico sports complicated on the north of the city

In 2007, it was engaged in a vast plan of restyling within the stadium to conform to UEFA standards, for the 2009 UEFA champions league final, which was disputed in Rome. These actions have permitted the Stadio Olimpico to be classified as UEFA top-flight stadium.

For Italians it is one of the primary Rome holiday maker attractions. It’s an amazing place just to see, and if you can buy tickets for a local A.S. Roma – Lazio derby, so much the better – it’s one of the best things worth doing in Rome.

The football season in Italy starts in the latter summer or early autumn and goes through to late spring. In the 2009 – 2010 season the two derbies will be on Sun. 6 December ( technically, Roma’s home game ) and sunday 18 April 2010 ( technically Lazio’s ). You can reserve seats in advance on Internet ticket sites but you will pay anything up to 200.

If you have rented an Appartement Vacances a Rome close to the time of the matches you’ll be able to buy tickets at the Stadio for a maximum of around a hundred for the enormous games and as little as ten for the less popular seats, from any of a bunch of shops in Italy, or from approved ticket sellers in Rome itself.

If you are a huge fan of AS Roma or Lazzio, you can go to Rome to see the derby and visit the city in the same week end, renting a Appartement à Rome.
