Amsterdam’s Best Hotels

Clearly, Amsterdam is one of the most diverse cities in Europe. The city has it all: stunning 17th century canals and world famous museums, a vast selection of top restaurants, bars and nightclubs, casinos, playgrounds and spas. Wherever you are based, there is access to travel on your doorstep, so getting to, from and around town is easy.

Amsterdam provides a range of hotels from luxury 5-star hotels to value hostels all either within walking distance of the main attractions or close to the many travel networks which join the city. Its combination of culture, heritage, vibrant scenes and ease of access to its many attractions all make it a perfect location for lively short city breaks or relaxing long holidays.

There is a large choice of accommodation available in Amsterdam offering options for every budget and taste; from boutique hideaways to converted canal houses and from deluxe five star hotels with park views to hostels for travellers just passing through. There are a number of 3 and 4 star hotels between the train station and the central hub of Dam Square, such as A Train, Bellevue, Victoria, Luxer, Avenue, Terminus, Westcord City Centre, De Roode Leeuw, Inntel and Die Port Van Cleve.

The lively Dam Square was built in the 13th century to protect the city and Amstel River from the Zuiderzee Sea and now enjoys trendy bars, a diamond centre, street entertainers, carnivals and the impressive 17th century Royal Palace. You can find the century old 5 star Nh Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel which enjoys a central location and is suitable for business or leisure, there is the value 3 star Nova Hotel and the traditional 19th century facades coupled with the modern facilities of the 4 star Swissotel. There is also the NH Carlton Hotel, 4 star, located on the corder between both Dam and Rembrandt Squares and near to the main attractions and the 3 star 17th Century merchant houses of the Rembrandt Residence Hotel which overlook the Herengracht Canal.

Originally known as the Butter Market, the traditional Rembrandt Square was named after the well known Dutch painter and was built from the remains of the old city port. It is home to numerous cafes, restaurants and bars and the hotels surrounding it include the modern 3 star Albus Grand Hotel, specialising in Dutch and continental cuisine, the 3 star Eden Hotel close to the flower markets and the central 4 star Rembrandt Square Hotel with its modern facilities. Within close proximity are also the contemporary 4 star Nh Caransa Hotel within the lively Rembrandtplein and the art deco 4 star Nh Schiller Hotel.

Nearing the Rijks Museum, you’ll find a number of budget hotels, as well as on the East side of the city with hotels such as the 2 star Plantage and the uniquely styled 4 star Arena hotel; but if you are after a more authentic experience, there are many historic and traditional hotels in the city.  There is the 1890 Park Plaza Victoria in a lively district of downtown Amsterdam, the 1913 Art Nouveau 5 star Grand Hotel Amrath enjoys its location next to the harbour and the Convent Hotel near Dam Square combines three historic buildings reflecting its typically Dutch architecture.
