Is The Royal Wedding Really That Important?

The news broke yesterday that Prince William was to Wed long term girlfriend Katie Middleton in the near future. The couple hinted they would be getting hitched in Spring 2011. Recation has been monitored around the country and lost people seem to be very happy about it. Random civilians were positivity brimming with joy at the news, commenting that was nice to hear amongst all the doom and gloom at the moment.

While a royal wedding is certainly not bad news. It baffles me as why so many are overjoyed about it, it will make absolutely no difference to the lives of the man on the street, and a ricj couple having an opulent wedding is hardly happy reading in such a depressed economic climate.

The news that William plans to give Kate his late mother’s engagement ring ruffled some feathers too, as well as provoking some bad taste jokes,  rings from a deceased relative are the last things I’d want as stocking fillers or personalised gifts . This will not make an impact on the Royal heirachy at present, Charles is still next in line to the thrown when the Queen passes away, and William will be next after that.

Yesterday the BBC asked people on the street their healthy relationship tips, a rare occurrence these days, half of all marriages end in divorce. Many said that giving each other space to persue personal hobbies was at the top of the list, closely followed by mainting a strong bond by talking and doing things together, Christmas gift ideas were not mentioned once!

Having been together since 2001, the Prince and Katie certainly have a strong relationship, but time will tell whether the pressures associated with being a married royal couple will exert strain on them.
