Vacations In The British Seaside Town Of Scarborough

The United Kingdom of Great Britain is famed for its popular seaside resorts which feature kiss-me-quick hats, fast food such as fish and chips, stag and hen parties and quirky postcards. In the previous couple of decades only the seaside towns of Brighton and Blackpool have retained their reputation as increasingly  English folks travel to hotter destinations to spend their yearly vacation. However just a few United Kingdom resorts seem to be battling to to regain their position within the British tourism industry. Within the following article I take a look at Scarborough an increasingly popular seaside resort in the north east of England.

Scarborough is the oldest seaside resort in the British Isles having been spoken about in a publication which was written during the 1660s, which mentioned the healthy benefits of a local spa. The spa continues to exist to this day and is situated on South Bay. Today called the Scarborough Spa Complex it, like many other locations, has reinvented itself and now offers a wide range of leisure amenities and also catering for weddings and company functions.

In many ways the resort has managed to present itself as a fantastic blend of the new and the old. Keeping many of its Victorian spa and seaside appeal the town now promotes  itself as centre for the artistic and digital industries. Increasingly more old buildings are being updated and brought into the 21st century and, for example, an old-fashioned museum is now a specially designed studio for artists. Enhancing this contemporary strategy to tourism you can now have free access to a wi-fi Internet connection along the harbour’s promenade.

Altogether this rather bold strategy has resulted in a wonderful family focused vacation destination with plenty of visitor attractions which are family friendly including numerous superb museums and galleries, parks and gardens, theme parks and a pretty good selection of historic buildings. With a picturesque coastline and wonderful countryside it’s little surprise that the town also presents loads of opportunities for sports and the sport of surfing is rapidly rising in popularity.

Art galleries and museums in Scarborough include the following galleries, Grosmont Gallery & Jazz Cafe, South Street Gallery, Crescents Arts and Scarborough Art Gallery plus the following museums, Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life, The Rotunda Museum, Millenium and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum.

Places of natural beauty, gardens and parks worth visiting include; The Bridestones, Hazelhead Lake, The Crosscliff Estate and The Walled Garden at Scampston plus Peasholm Park and Peasholm Island. Places of historical interest include Peak Alum Works, Ebberston Hall, Scarborough Castle and Scampston Hall. You may also find the following interesting, Church of St-Martin-on-the-Hill, The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, All Saints Church and Church of St Mary.

Probably the most popular family attraction in Scarborough is the amazing Sea Life Centre but other family visitor attractions well worth visiting include; Terror Tower, Atlantis, Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo and Kinderland also many other animal and wildlife visitor attractions such as, Moorland Trout Farms, Betton Farm and Grainary Wildlife Farm.

Of course the article above only touches upon countless attractions within the town but if following reading the above article you would like to take a short vacation at this incredible seaside town and you are searching for bed & breakfast in Scarborough then please think about examining our extensive list of discount hotels in Scarborough.
